Boxer Shorts, October, 2004 - 3 of 4
September Meeting Minutes
It was sunny and clear, cool enough for a
layer of fleece - but no electrics needed.
The parking lot filled quickly as people
arrived ready to kick some tail pipes and
smell some tires.Of the approximately 80
bikes in the parking lot, there were the
usual Ducatis and two unusual Brand X's,
Phactory Phil's Triumph Thruxton, and Rick
Muhr's custom chopper; in all a far smaller
showing of Brand X bikes than usual.
Stone's Pub served up their traditional (hey, we're bikers, we have to establish traditions quickly) breakfast of brown and white Irish soda bread, and huge slabs of toast with thick pats of rich New England creamery butter. There were creamy (how DO they get them to come out that way?) scrambled eggs, savory sausage links grilled to a skin snapping perfection, bacon cooked crispy on the outside yet still juicy on the inside; hash with bite sized chunks of corned beef; home fries; and French toast, swimming in Stone's secret banana maple syrup. Bottomless pots of rich robust coffee and pitchers of fresh squeezed orange juice rounded out the fair.
Once the sausage scarffing was completed, President Kit Wise called the meeting to order. Kit pointed out that, as promised, we were enjoying good weather for yet another YB event, bringing a hearty round of applause. There was a second round for Paschal Healey who after being a rideless member for quite some time, finally came to a meeting on a motor powered two wheeler. Paschal had recently acquired Tammy Lederer's beautiful blue Honda and new riding gear and put it all together, proving once again that you really do meet the nicest people on a Honda.
Kit reported that the 50 of us who attended
the August dinner meeting had a very nice
time and some hearty German food thanks to
the hard work of Fred Kolack, our viceroy
of victuals, and the rest of his food service
aficionados.
BMWMOA mileage surveys are to be completed by October 12.
All officer positions will be up for election this fall. Incumbent Vice President Dave Harmacek and Treasurer Maurice Kornreich are eligible for reelection. President Kit Wise has indicated that he will not seek reelection. Secretary Bruce Ferguson has reached his term limitation. If you want to see Club business done differently, this is your turn to step up.
Nomination forms will be published in the October Boxer Shorts. Nominations can be mailed to the club secretary or brought to the October meeting. All nominations must be in by October 17. Nominees who accept the nomination will have until October 25 to submit their position statements to the editor of the Boxer Shorts, Victor Cruz.
Although several candidates for the various offices have been brought forward, no one will actually be nominated until they show up on an official nomination form.
Rob Nye reminded us about the Green Mountain
400 scheduled for October 10. There will
be a number of destinations designed to make
the ride interesting, and a fancy banquet
served on Sunday evening. Camping will be
available at the Ascutney campsite for those
who do not want to find room at the inn.
You do not have to participate in the ride
in order to participate in the dinner. So,
in that case it would be Ride Not to Eat,
Eat Not to Ride. In either event, applications
must be postmarked by September 20.
On Saturday October 16, Mike Andrew's will lead his traditional fall Cape Cod Ride. Mike knows the Cape better than most natives and his tours have always been a great way to hang on to the season. The tourists will be mostly gone, the weather has always cooperated, and we ride and eat as only the YB's can. Rendezvous early to ballast down at the IHOP on the rotary on the Cape side, South of the Bourne Bridge. Take I-495 South until it changes to Mass Route 25 and keep on riding up and over the bridge. If you need more details call Mike Andrews, home (508) 877-7228, work (508) 655-1380. The conga line heads out at 9:00 sharp! Capes optional.
Dana Lewis will head up the last organized, or so he calls it, ride of the season to Gould's Sugar Shack on Saturday, October 30.They have pancakes, corn fritters, homemade sausage, and the best waffles known to man. Meet up for a quick cup of coffee at the Boxcar Restaurant, Route 2 in Erving and be ready to ride at 10:00. As with any other ride, your tank should be full and your bladder empty. There will be two raiding parties: one mostly dirt, and one mostly tar. Find out why Dana Lewis is known as Le Savant d'Tarndirt.
November 7 will be Carl Sosociable's annual
conclave at The Vanilla Bean in Pomfret,
CT. This will be the last organized (OK.
We're using the term loosely, here) YB event
of the year. Last year, well over 100 YB's
showed up. Talk about your ride to greet!
Pomfret is at the intersection of Route 169
and Route 44. Meet there around 9:30 give
or take an hour or two.
Future breakfast Meetings will be November 21 and December 19 at Stone's. Everybody must get stoned.
New members included Perry Tomasetti from Townsend, MA, who rides a 2004 K1200GT; Ted Blackburn, Weston, a 94 RS; John Murray of Hanson, an FZ6; Brett Belanger, Uxbridge, 1983 R100RT; Mike Leyden, Tiverton, RI, an R75; Bob Snyder, Westford, Vstrom; Martin Hansel, Natick, Cannondale pedeal bike. (Martin, you should check in with Paschal. He used to be in charge of the YB pedal crankers division.)
The 50:50 netted the club $69 and two prizes of $33 each were awarded to Bob (Ain't Stoppin') Hadden, and Maurice (my new bike's in the works) Kornreich. Both Bob and Mo generously donated their winnings to the Diane Pleines Fund.
Next month's meeting will be Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Stone's Pub. Delicious breakfast at 8:30, meeting at 9:30! Be there, or be haunted by some sick, senseless Halloween trick.
