October Meeting Minutes

by Bruce Ferguson, Secretary and Clerk

BruceIt's harvest time and the living is easy. Mary Sunshine was arcing into the sky and the Fahrenheit was unseasonably high. Your Speed Pass was rich and your pillion good looking. You can be riding for a while so hush you riders don't you cry.

October 17 found 89 bikes in Stone's parking lot, and 82 paid breakfasts sold. In addition to an impressive turnout of classic K75's, there was a new GS1200, a Rockster 80th anniversary edition, and several OMB's (other makes of bike) including a black KTM 950 Adventure, a green Triumph 1200, a gold Moto Guzzi V11 Le Mans, and an absolutely gorgeous red Norton 850.

Stone's Public House served up their benchmark breakfast buffet of: authentic Irish soda bread, crunchy toast, rich creamery butter, tropical cantaloupe slices, snappy sausages, creamy scrambled eggs, extra lumpy corned beef hash, rashers of clove cured bacon, French toast swimming in secret banana rum maple syrup, endless flagons of rich imported coffee, and gallons of fresh juice. I get hungry just thinkin' about it. Fred Kolack and the breakfast committee continued their smooth delivery of the victuals and hungry riders queued to eat in record time.

At 9:30 President Kit Wise hollered the meeting to order on the patio.

The MOA survey ended October 10 at midnight. Ink-on-paper guy Dana Lewis brought extra copies of the mileage survey form so that all could complete their entries and have them sent in on the club's stamp.

Doug Farmer announced that the store was running low on a number of key items and he would be reordering soon. If anyone needs a particular item ordered, they should speak to Doug. Several special items will be available featuring the YB logo: an embroidered fleece pullover personalized with the wearer's name; engraved name badges; and a reflective vest. Doug will have more specifics on pricing after he gets a feel for the interest in these items.

Mike Andrews reported on the 7th annual Cape Cod ride. Twenty riders on 18 bikes met at the Bourne IHOP for a ride through the highways and byways of the Cape, with visits to a lot of swell beaches, promontories, and other scenic attractions. Once again, the riders stopped at the Wellfleet Oyster Festival for lunch. Almost everyone luxuriated in freshly shucked oysters on the half shell, chowders, bisques and steamers. Raul Laguarda reported eating 20 oysters but they must not have worked because he made the breakfast meeting.

The Green Mountain 400 was a great ride. A reported 47 riders participated. Unfortunately Nina Glavin's roadster went down on a dirt road and while trying to keep her bike upright, Nina broke her leg. Her husband Mark stayed with her. Gary VanVoorhis dropped out of the rally to get his truck and recover Nina's bike. Craig Cleasby stopped to assist as long as he was needed, then continued the ride to a 2nd place finish. Rider Lars Leivaag smacked a flying turkey with his face and crashed his Adventure. Although the turkey was reputed to be dead, it took off. Maurice Kornreich, riding two up, finished in the top 10.

Fred Kolack, the Viceroy of Victuals, introduced our host and the chef at Stone's, Matt Murphy. Matt received an enthusiastic round of applause.

Bruce Ferguson announced that the club was renewing its AMA charter and asked for four volunteers to provide their AMA numbers for the application.

Bruce then announced the nominees for election to office in 2005. They included for secretary: Brad Barrus, Craig Cleasby, Angus Crowe, Lee Eckhart, Bruce Ferguson, Fred Kolack, and Andrea Chase Wessling; for treasurer, Maurice Kornreich; for vice president, Dave Harmacek, Dana Lewis, and Karl Neugebauer; and for president, Craig Cleasby, Bruce Ferguson, Dave Harmacek, and Jeff Leavitt. This list will be vetted to ensure that each candidate is eligible and willing to run. The final candidates will appear on the ballot.

In accordance with the by-laws, the election will be held in November for each of the 4 offices of the club. Just as the nomination forms were included in the October Boxer Shorts so shall a ballot be included in the November issue of the Boxer Shorts. The official ballot will be the inside back cover of the November Shorts. Only official ballots will be counted. All votes must be received by the Secretary by December 7, 2004.

Jeff Leavitt announced that he would not be running for President this year, preferring to concentrate on being the Rally Master at Pemi.

Dana Lewis announced his annual fall foliage ride to Gould's. Riders will assemble Saturday, October 30, at the Boxcar in Erving at 9:30 for a 10:00 departure by scenic back roads known only to Dana. YB's who are serious about their waffles, should be sure to meet up with Dana, regardless of the weather.

November 7 will be Carl Sosociable's annual rendezvous at The Vanilla Bean in Pomfret, CT. This will be the last ride of the year with any semblance of being organized. Last year well over 110 YB's showed up over the course of the morning. Talk about your ride to eat. Pomfret is at the intersection of Route 169 and Route 44. Meet there around 9:30 give or take an hour or two.

Mike Andrews announced the 2005 Hound Butt 400 bus trip to the New York International Motorcycle Show, departing The Franklin, MA Stop 'n Shop parking lot at o'dark thirty (that's 7:00 for you civilians) on January 22, 2005. The entry fee for this rally is $45 and space is limited to 55 riders, first come, first served. Since Mike will be in South America that day, Kit Wise will be the bus monitor. To secure your seat on the bus, send your check to Kit.

Finally, it was time to meet new members, Ric Ramsey Lunenberg '04 K1200RS; Bill Lazzaro, Moe's son; and André Walker, Lexington, '04 R1150 RT

Next month's meeting will be Sunday, November 21, 2004, at Stone's Public House, full breakfast at 8:30, meeting at 9:30! Be there, or be gossiped about.
