The Prez Sez

by Craig Cleasby

The Prez"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming; "Wow what a Ride." -- A fellow Advrider.

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." -- Henry David Thoreau.

"I went sky diving
I went Rocky Mountain climbing
I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named FuManchu
and I loved deeper and I spoke sweeter
and I gave forgiveness I'd been denying
and he said someday I hope you get the chance
to live like you were dying." -- Tim McGraw

We lost long time member Fred Tausch this month. As reported elsewhere in the Boxer Shorts, many of us Yankee Beemers attended Fred's Eulogy Service. I rode my GS to the service and back home to South Windsor, Ct. One of the great things about riding is the thinking one can do. It doesn't seem to happen in the car, too much distraction from the radio, complex instrumentation and such, but on two wheels, it is just you and the machine. Your mind starts to work, thinking first one thought and then randomly moving on to the next. The above quotes are what were going through my mind on the ride home from Fred's' service. I am not going to write in detail what my thoughts were, I am just going to share the above quotes....please think about them, hop on your bike and go for a ride, let your mind work, enjoy the result.

Riding home from Sunday's breakfast meeting, I couldn't help but think what a great and diverse club we have! In the upcoming riding season we have something for everyone! Some of the events that we spoke of include: Watching the Daytona 200 Live, courtesy of Wagner BMW; Tack Day on May 9th - imagine riding around New Hampshire International Speedway with 75 of your best BMW riding buddies! Also, the Frosty Nutz is coming up the first weekend in May. For those of you who are not familiar with this event, it is a weekend camping in Jamaica State Park, Jamaica, VT. The Yankee Beemers reserve a group of campsites and we kick off the start of the riding season. It is a no frills event, no food is provided, and you either bring your own and cook over the fire, or stop at the local restaurant or general store. It does provide some of the best camaraderie and riding in New England. Max Stratton of Max BMW is hosting a Dual Sport Ride starting in western Massachusetts on Saturday May 21st. If it covers any of the terrain we rode last year, it is very enjoyable and do-able on street tires. It is a great way to hone your skills after the long winter.

Two club options are provided over the Memorial Day weekend. Fred Burgess' famous Black Fly Rolling Rally, which is precisely what the name implies. Ride, eat, tent, ride, eat, tent, ride, eat, tent... three days of riding the best back roads in New England and surrounding areas. Victor Cruz is hosting a fundraiser ride for our own Diane Pleines. Riding with Victor will bring you to New York State and some fine accommodations and meals. <

We had a great show of hands of riders riding west to the MOA National rally in Lima, Ohio (July 21-24th). It would be great to see another strong turnout so that we could once again capture the coveted "Largest club in attendance". We did it in Trenton and Charlestown, lets do it again in Ohio!

The interest in the YB European tour was so high that it filled up and closed out at the meeting! All of you must be commended for recognizing an exceptional deal and jumping on it (following our true Yankee upbringing)! Thanks Moe Lazzaro and Victor Cruz for all the hard work you did putting it together.

And speaking of sold out, send in your pre-registration for the Minuteman 1000 now, before it sells out. Rallymaster Rob Nye has planned a great event. It will be held on June 11th. Details are available at www.minuteman1000.com.

I am ironing out the final details to the YB's in the White Mountains getaway. We will be staying at a very comfortable and historic Inn. The inn has a gourmet restaurant and a very comfortable tearoom and library. The inn has 36 rooms with private bath and four guest houses offering 1 to 4 bedrooms. The tentative date is September 9-11th. The cost should be $120 per room per night and includes breakfast. The riding is great and there are plenty of places to shop and visit.

I am very excited about all of the riding and events that the club will offer this year. Pick the ones you like and I'll see you there!

Firing on all four plugs..... Craig.
