Point in Shoreham, VT where we boarded the
cable ferry to Ticonderoga, NY. History: Larabee's Point, Shoreham, VT. -- Before the opening of railroads on both sides of the lake had shifted the channels of traffic and reduced the commercial importance Of Lake Champlain, Larabee's Point was a place of considerable importance. The first store kept here or in town was began about 1789. In 1787 a ferry was established here by John S. Larabee. The ferry still remains in operation today by "Zeb" Martin, the proprietor. |
